Opinion Person Of The Month: Aaron Rouselle
What made you return to play JUCO basketball at 40?
Love of the game and to be a better example to people to go after their dreams regardless of their circumstances
Was there a moment when you almost gave up? What pushed you through?
Absolutely during my second transplant I wanted to die. I asked God to take me and he did. I went to heaven talked to him and then came back with a purpose.
How has your perspective on the game changed over time?
It’s getting faster and more athletic but not as much thinking going on. I love baseball because it’s a game of knowing when to think and when to react. I don’t like this homerun or strikeout shit
What does chasing your dreams — no matter your age — mean to you?
Age is a blessing not a limitation. It’s just chapters in your book. But if you’re not chasing your dreams you’re not writing your book. You’re letting someone else.
How do you block out other people’s opinions or doubts?
Because everyone doubting is too afraid to chase their dreams. People who support are believers
Has anyone ever told you you're "too old" to play — and how did you respond?
Daily. I just tell them don’t put your limitations on me. You might be too old, but I’m not.
Opinion’s message is about chasing what you want regardless of what others think. How does that show up in your life?
It’s daily. I am very sick and I deal with it everyday from family to doctors telling me what I should and shouldn’t do. I listen but I also didn’t live through all this to not live.
What advice would you give someone who feels “behind” in life?
Gods timing is perfect. Trust him not anything else. Just keep going When people hear your story, what do you hope they take away from it? To get inspired to do more things they love
