Important Lessons I Have Learned About Starting A Clothing Brand

Opinion has been a whirlwind of ups and downs, and I still have so much to learn it’s insane, but I hope these tips will help anyone thinking about starting their own business. These are some of the lessons that I have learned so far with Opinion.

You can’t please everyone.

If you are trying to accomplish something so that you please a certain person or a group of people, you’re doing it for the wrong reason. Accomplish something so that you feel good about yourself. You can’t be happy until you’re happy with yourself. No matter what design I come up with for Opinion, there will ALWAYS be people that don’t like it, and I need to understand that it’s ok to not have everyone like my work.

Looking in the past will destroy you.

This is something I really need to work on. Once something has past, it can’t be fixed, so you need to fix it by doing the right things in the future. I have a bad tendency to look back and say what if I would’ve went with different sizes, what if I would’ve done this design, what if I went with this manufacturer ect ect. That is going to get me nowhere. Take the information that you have and learn from it.

Mistakes are to be learned from, not embarrassed about.

Like I said, take the information you have and learn from it. If you make the same mistake twice, the second time is on you. A mistake can be made, but it’s how you learn from it that shows if you’re paying attention or not. By no means am I perfect because holy hell I’ve made so many mistakes with Opinion I don’t even know where to start, but I am learning as I go and try not to make the same mistake twice.

You are your biggest critic

I know that’s a saying that I use all the time, but it really is true. Take time everyone once in a while to step back and see how far you’ve come. When you start your own business, it’s so easy to get caught up in growing and progressing that you never take a step back and see the impact that you’ve made and how far you have come from the start. It’s not selfish to be proud of yourself.

I hope these help out in any way possible. If I didn’t cover something, please reach out to me on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, or just on the contact page of the site, I’m always open to talk and discuss whatever it is you’re wondering.

If you think you want to try something, try it, trust me, it’s worth it.
