How to handle anxiety during COVID-19

Quarantine and anxiety are two that just don’t mix very well, so I thought that I would share with you the things I’m currently doing to lower my anxiety during these times.

Working out. I can not stress how important staying active has been to my anxiety and even my depression when I struggled with that in the past. Staying active for me, gives me the feeling that I’m literally sweating my stress out. I also know that I'm bettering my body as well as my mind. I know what I’m explaining is more of an intense workout, but getting out and just walking around outside counts as well. Get fresh air in your lungs, you’d be surprised how much it helps.

If you’re healthy, realize how lucky you are. In this time of illness, when we are healthy, we can tend to want the things that we were once able to do when the stay at home wasn’t in place. Of course, we miss those things, but thinking about them and not being able to do those activities can lead to anxiety. It’s important to understand that having good health right now is a privilege and not taken for granted.

Stay in contact with people. Not being able to see people can lead to you losing that spark in your friendship and for me leads to me getting anxious that I’m not friends with them anymore. Send out a text if you realize you haven’t talked to someone in a while, you never know they might be feeling the same way.

Understanding what we are going through should give you some anxiety and that’s ok. Too many people think it’s weird to have anxiety and that they’re the only one. Trust me, you’re NOT. Having anxiety shows that you’re human.
